Online Databases

Welcome to the Online Databases page which provides links to both subscription-based and free database research tools. These databases will provide you the opportunity to research and locate information, much of which can ultimately be printed out in full-text at the desktop.

We have some instructional offerings for specific producer resources and some we have created to help you. Click Here to see what is available.


A service with FREE ACCESS from the National Library of Medicine (NLM). To date, it includes over 22 million citations for biomedical literature dating back to 1940. The citations are from MEDLINE and other life sciences journals. PubMed also includes links to many publisher sites providing full text articles and other related resources.

If unfamiliar with PubMed, choose from these PubMed Quick Tours with each one taking three minutes or less.

Use this link when performing a literature search in PubMed, when you to know what is available in the collection of the Murray Memorial Library and when you want to locate items in the Stanley K. Davis Library at SAGH, use this PubMed link.

In the Abstract display format from the drop-down menu, the Samaritan Health Services logo and/or Print Holdings icon may appear. If so, this alerts you to immediate full text online or the print availability of the journal article through our libraries.

The Cochrane Systematic Reviews contain high-quality, independent evidence to inform those in healthcare decision-making summarizing the world’s best evidence on the effectiveness of more than 3300 therapeutic interventions. The Cochrane Systematic Reviews bring you the combined results of the world’s best medical research studies, and are recognized as the gold standard in evidence-based health care.

To utilize this valuable resource from outside the Samaritan Health Services network, a Username and Password is required and can be easily obrtained by contacting library staff at either GSRMC (541) 768-6200 or SAGH (541) 812-4446.


AccessMedicine from McGraw-Hill is an innovative online resource that provides access to more than 75 medical titles from the best minds in medicine, updated content, thousands of images and illustrations, interactive self-assessment, case files, time-saving diagnostic and point-of-care tools, a comprehensive search platform, and the ability to view from and download content to a mobile device.

Use either the AccessMedicine Guide or JAMAevidence Guide to help you choose the appropriate textbook and/or assorted tools available in both resources.

JAMAevidence helps decision makers identify the best available evidence by providing guides to the systematic consideration of the validity, importance, and applicability of claims about the assessment of health problems and the outcomes of health care.

Natural Standard is an integrative medicine product. Consisting of 12 databases, the information created uses the expertise of a multidisciplinary Editorial Board is evidence-based, consensus-based, and peer-reviewed.

This database from Gale is considered one of the premier sources for peer-reviewed, full-text articles from the world's leading journals and reference sources. By following the above link you will begin your search in the complete Academic OneFile. Click here to immediately narrow your search to Academic OneFile-Medicine or look in Related Subjects to find a more specific medical subject area to begin your research.

This is another of the many Gale databases we provide. It is a multi-source database providing access to full-text of nursing and allied health journals, plus a wide variety of personal health information sources that offer reliable health information to researchers, including nursing and allied health students.

Nursing and allied health professionals will find millions of articles found in over 1,100 journals. In this database you'll find many of the titles cited in CINAHL. This as with many of the Gale databases provides full-text coverage of many journals.

An osteopathic medicine digital library that builds upon OSTMED, a bibliographic index to the literature of osteopathic medicine. It provides access to all content within the repository. Fully searchable, it currently contains journals and articles, but continues to add information including historical documents, books, core journals, selective journals, video, and images.
